In today's Star paper, I was a bit taken aback when our DPM said this...
Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin is surprised to learn that English is not a “must pass” subject for SPM and wants public feedback on the matter.
It has been ongoing for some time that English has been set tracked and not deemed as an important subject by the education ministry. Concerned parents have forseen the dangers and perils of not learning English and have since sent their own children to private tuitions regardless of what the ministry has condoned. I am sure that their efforts paid off, children have come to accept English as part of their daily lives and seen the subject as the door to globalization.
I hope the ministry will take this seriously and do something about this once and for all...
