According to my friend who is a bank officer, investors generally buy gold as a hedge against any economic, or currency-based crises. These crises include investment market declines, currency failure and even inflation. In other words, gold is a better option in terms of investment as of today. As the share market is fluctuating recently, a lot of people has opted for gold investment, as far as I know. But of course, It doesn't mean gold price will always stable, it is driven by supply and demand too.
However, one has to be careful when to buy gold coins and when to indulge in heavy investments. It is always advisable to get some "healthy advice" from some dedicated professionals to monitor our investment, it always pay to go to the right person and not to decide on our own.
